Meet the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Ontario's Next Premium SUV
April 13 2026,
Mercedes-Benz built its reputation on engineering that balances power with refinement.
The headline story is the new V8 in the GLE 580 4MATIC. Mercedes-Benz replaced the previous cross-plane crankshaft with a flat-plane design to sharpen throttle response and improve efficiency. That power translates to confident highway passing and composed acceleration in any gear.
The 60-kW DC fast charger can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes, and a 9.6-kW onboard charger handles AC charging at home or at public stations.
Key Specs and Features
The 2027 GLE lineup spans five models, each with a different powertrain approach. The GLE 350 4MATIC uses a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft. The GLE 450 4MATIC steps up to a 3.0L inline-six with 375 hp and 413 lb-ft.
The GLE 500e 4MATIC is the plug-in hybrid variant, pairing a 3.0L inline-six with a 181-hp electric motor for a combined system output of 429 hp and 502 lb-ft.
The electric motor delivers 354 lb-ft from the first rotation, which eliminates turbo lag and provides immediate response when pulling away from a stop. This model offers 106 km of all-electric range - enough to cover most daily commutes in Ottawa or the GTA without using the combustion engine.
At the top of the range, the AMG GLE 53 HYBRID combines a 443-hp version of the 3.0L inline-six with the same 181-hp electric motor, producing a combined system output of 577 hp and 553 lb-ft.
The electric motor allows all-electric driving at speeds up to 140 km/h, and the Battery Hold drive mode lets you save the battery charge for city driving later in your trip.

Every 2027 GLE comes standard with 4MATIC fully variable all-wheel drive. On snow or ice - common across Ontario from November through March - it shifts torque forward to maximise traction.
The transfer case also includes a low-range reduction gear with a 1:2.93 ratio for off-road driving, which increases torque at the wheels for better control on sand, gravel, or rocky terrain.
The available AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damping control uses cloud-based data to anticipate bumps in the road ahead and adjust damping before the vehicle reaches them. For the GLE 580 4MATIC, optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL regulates each wheel individually and stabilizes the body in almost every driving situation.
This model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds — nearly a full second faster than the previous AMG GLE 53 — and reaches a top speed of 249 km/h.
What Sets It Apart

The 2027 GLE introduces the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), a supercomputer platform that integrates and controls every aspect of the vehicle. The system uses artificial intelligence and is connected to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, which enables over-the-air updates for the entire vehicle software.
The standard MBUX Superscreen spans the front of the cabin with a smooth glass surface that integrates three 12.3-inch digital displays - one for the driver, one for the centre console, and one for the front passenger.
MBUX Navigation with Google Maps pairs Google's mapping technology with the familiar Mercedes-Benz interface, providing real-time traffic data and route optimization.
The exterior design features new twin-star motifs in each headlamp. The grille includes an illuminated central Mercedes star and available contour lighting. The available DIGITAL LIGHT technology produces a high-resolution light field that is significantly larger than the previous system while consuming up to 50 percent less energy.
Inside, the GLE offers new trim finishes, including the newly available Beech Brown interior colour. The optional power-adjustable second-row seats can be adjusted fore and aft separately by up to 99 mm and folded down in a 40:20:40 ratio. The backrests can also be adjusted by 18 degrees.
The AMG GLE 53 HYBRID adds AMG-specific design elements, including a modified radiator grille, newly designed air intakes, and LED lighting.
The rear features striking taillights with the star design and the AMG exhaust system with twin tailpipe trims. The MANUFAKTUR program offers high-quality Nappa leather interiors in colours like Yacht Blue or Carmine Red, and exclusive trim finishes.
The GLE Delivers on Performance and Technology
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE offers a comprehensive redesign. The new engine lineup offers a range of performance options for different driving priorities. The flat-plane crankshaft V8 in the GLE 580 4MATIC delivers 530 hp with sharper throttle response and improved efficiency, while the plug-in hybrid models provide all-electric driving capability for daily commutes.
The MB.OS supercomputer platform and MBUX Superscreen bring the digital experience into the cabin, with over-the-air updates that keep the vehicle current without dealership visits.
