The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE offers many performance capabilities
The GLE 350 4MATIC features a turbocharged 2.0-litre that produces 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Despite this engine having the least amount of horsepower in the comparison, it still tows over twice the amount (3,500 kg) of any RX model. The GLE 450 4MATIC increases horsepower to 362 and torque to 369, making it the most powerful non-AMG model while exceeding the capabilities of any RX.
The RX lineup includes one gas-only powertrain and one hybrid system. The gas powertrain consists of a 3.5-litre six-cylinder that produces 295 horsepower in the RX 350 and 290 horsepower in the RX 350 L. The hybrid models generate a total 308 system horsepower. All RX powertrains tow less than half (1,500 kg) of what the GLE 350 and 450 can handle.
The AMG GLE models confidently surpass the capabilities of all others. The AMG GLE 53 features a twin-scroll turbo six-cylinder and a 48-volt EQ Boost that combine to output 429 horsepower. The 603-horsepower biturbo in the AMG GLE 63 S results in a 100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. The RX does not have a performance lineup.
The 2021 GLE focuses on comfort
The RX lineup has earned a reputation of being notoriously cramped for occupants. On the contrary, the GLE offers generous seating dimensions everywhere inside the cabin to help reduce fatigue and discomfort. The front row of each GLE model has up to 1,029 mm of headroom, 1,024 mm of legroom, and 1,506 mm of shoulder room—all noticeably more than the RX.
When it's time to pack up and take a family vacation, the GLE offers plenty of cargo volume for its size. With a total of 2,055 litres of volume behind the front row and flexible seats, the GLE creates a trip-friendly environment. It also offers 630 litres of cargo volume behind the second row.
